CANADA TERROR SUSPECTS
Five Muslims were detained in Canada in 2000-1 on a CSIS security certificate as posing threat to Canada’s national security, without being officially charged. All the five were released, eventually, to a restricted home arrest and are today (09/2008) fighting in court their possible deportation back to their homeland. The five are:
* Adil Charkaoui - was born in Morocco in 1974. He arrived to Canada in 1995 with his mother, father and sister. See - Adil Charkaoui
* Mohamed Harkat was born in Algeria and arrived to Toronto, Canada, in 1995 via Malaysia, using a faked Saudi passport. See - Mohamed Harkat
* Hassan Almrei - was born on 01/01/1974 in Syria. In 1981 his family moved to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, where he was raised. See - Hassan Almrei
* Mohammed Zeki Mahjoub - was born in Egypt in 1960. He graduated the Zagazig University as agricultural engineer and served in the Egyptian Army. See - Mohammad Mahjoub
* Mahmoud Es-Sayyid Jaballah - was born in Egypt in the late 60s’. He was a student in Zagazig University where he was a member in an Islamic group “Al-Badr”. See - Mahmoud Jaballah

* Two Canadian citizens where arrested in USA and handed over to Middle Eastern Arab countries through Extraordinary Rendition.
*Ahmad Abu El-Maati the brother of an suspected Al Qaeda operative Amer el-Maati. He arrived with his family from Kuwait to Canada as a teenager in the late 70s’. Ahmad Abu El-Maati was arrested in 2003 after he was stopped at the Canada-USA border while working as a truck driver. Border guards found a map of Ottawa marking government buildings and nuclear research facilities. Ahmad Abu El-Maati returned to Canada in 2005 after spending two years in jail in Syria and Egypt.
* Maher Arar - Maher Arar, a telecommunications engineer, was born in Syria in 1970. See - Maher Arar
