Eric Breininger
Eric Breininger was born in Neunkirchen, in Saarland region of Germany, in 1987. His parents divorced when he was a child. He grew up as a regular young German teenager until 2006, when he met in his workplace some strict Muslims, members of the “Islamic Jihad Union” (-IJU). In late 2006, under the influence and leadership of Fritz Martin Gelowicz, Eric Breininger converted to Islam, changed his own life dramatically, prayed five times a day and called himself Abdul Ghafar. Eric Breininger quit home in 04/2007 and moved in with his friend, Daniel Martin Schneider, on the outskirts of Saarbrucken. Daniel Martin Schneider was arrested on 09/04/2007 as a prime suspect in the Ramstein Plot.
On 08/28/2007, a week before Daniel Martin Schneider’s arrest, Eric Breininger traveled via Egypt and Iran to Pakistan and then to the FATA tribal region of Pakistan for military training in an “Islamic Jihad Union” (-IJU) camp.
On 05/23/2008 a video interview with Eric Breininger was posted in a website related to the “Islamic Jihad Union” (-IJU). In the footage he warned that "Germany - along with every other nation taking part in the occupation [of Afghanistan] - should expect attacks by Muslims". In the footage Eric Breininger is seen in fighter’s gear and carrying an automatic weapon, laughing as he said he wanted “to die as a soldier of God”.
On Wednesday 09/25/2008 the German prosecutors announced that Eric Breininger, and Houssain Al Malla, who were implicated in the Ramstein Plot, could be headed to Germany after leaving a terrorist training camp in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The German Security Service BKA issued a terror alert that he is probably on his way back to Germany, published his photos in public stations and he was described “extremely dangerous”. The alert was based on a description of him allegedly seen in Bosnia on 09/20/2008.
The next day, on 09/26/2008 morning, German commandos have arrested two men From Somali descent on a KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines airplane preparing to take off from Cologne airport, Germany. They were suspected to be linked, somehow, to Eric Breininger and Houssain Al Malla in Pakistan. Both suspects were released unconditionally on Thursday 08/10/2008 (see - Cologne 09.26.08).
On 10/21/2008 Eric Breininger has resurfaced in a video, claiming he is in Afghanistan and does not plan to attack Germany.
On Thursday 04/15/2010 Eric Brininger appeared in yet another video footage distributed in the web through Jihadi websites, in which he announced the first operation of the so called "German Taleban Mujahideen" against an American base in Paktika, East Afghanistan, between Kabul and Kandahar.
Intelligence sources, both in Pakistan and Germany, said, on Monday 05/03/2010, that Eric Brininger was killed in a battle with Pakistani troops, on 04/30/2010, on the border region with Afghanistan, and confirmed the authentication of the Islamic Jihad Union -IJU renouncement, which was distributed on the web the same day.
