Adem  Yilmaz

 

Adem  Yilmaz was born in 1979 and is a Turkish national who grew up in Germany. He lived in Ulm and was a close friend and confidant of Fritz Martin Gelowicz, the presumed ringleader of the local Islamic Jihad Union –IJU terror cell, also known as the ‘Saarland Group’ (see also - Dr Yehia Yousif).

 

Since 07/2007 Adem  Yilmaz and Fritz Martin Gelowicz were both under close surveillance preparing explosives and planning what became known as the Ramstein Plot.   

 

On 09/04/2007, Adem  Yilmaz was arrested as a suspect in the Ramstein Plot. According to the German security service BKA, Adem  Yilmaz attended, in previous years, a training camp, run by the Islamic Jihad Union –IJU, in South Waziristan, Pakistan.

 

On 09/02/2008, Adem  Yilmaz was charged, along with Fritz Martin Gelowicz, and Daniel Martin Schneider, with membership in a terrorist organization. If convicted, he faces a possible 10 years in prison. He was accused of being a member of the radical Islamic Jihad Union -IJU, an offshoot of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan -IMU, a Jihadist group with origins in Central Asia.

 

The younger brother of Adem  Yilmaz, Burhan Yilmaz, was arrested, on 10/22/2008, near Frankfurt on suspicion that he ferried money and equipment for an Afghanistan-based group, probably referring to the Islamic Jihad Union –IJU .
 
* Adem  Yilmaz was convicted and sentenced, on 03/04/2010, to  years in jail (see - Sentence 03.04.10).
