Ata ur Rehman & Shahzad Bajwa
Ata ur Rehman, the Jundallah Amir (commissioner) of Karachi is a University graduate.
Ata ur Rehman masterminded and led the Gen. Hayat Attempt in Karachi, on 06/10/2004. Two days later Ata ur Rehman was arrested alongside his depute Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, alias Abdullah, and 7 other militants in an apartment in Karachi. In the investigation Ata ur Rehman was also implicated with the Hyderi Mosque Attack, on 05/07/2004 and with the Jinnah Road Mosque Attack, on 05/31/2004. Bothe attacks, in Karachi, claimed the life of 39 Shiite worshipers.
Ata ur Rehman told the interrogators that after attacking the corps commander's cavalcade he had planned to attack the USA consulate in Karachi with light machineguns.
Both Ata ur Rehman and Shahzad Bajwa along with a codefendant - Qasim Toori, received training in October and November of 2003 in South Waziristan at an alleged Al Qaeda facility and shooting range on the property of tribal leader Eda Khan near Shakai village.
Shahzad Bajwa sustained injuries, on 03/19/2004, during an attack on a mobile van of Pakistan Rangers, at Shan/Bismillah Taqi Hospital in Karachi, and was then treated by the Dr. Waheed Brothers.
On 02/21/2006 both Ata ur Rehman and Shahzad Bajwa were sentenced to death penalty, along with other 9 defendants, for their role in the Gen. Sakim Hayat assassination Attempt. Today (04/2009) both are still in Karachi jail.
