PAKISTAN STILL THE EPICENTER OF TERROR
A fresh charge sheet filed by the USA Department of Justice, on Wednesday 07/07/2010, in the terror case of Zazi Plot to attack the New York Subway system in 09/2009, shows that Al Qaeda is still running terrorist training camps in FATA region of North-West Pakistan.
The Justice Department pointed to this while stating that the plot to bomb New York's subway system headed by Najibullah Zazi, uncovered in 09/2009, was directed by senior Al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan. It also said the leadership plotted to use Western operatives to attack targets in Britain (see -U.K Suspects 04.09).
The eleven-page charge sheet, which was filed in a New York federal court, said that five of the accused had received training from Al Qaeda in Waziristan in 2008 and early 2009. The five defendants; Abid Nasser, Tariq-ur-Rehman, Adnan El Shukrijumah, a shadowy figure known as "Ahmad," "Sohaib" or "Zahid", all the three fugitives in Pakistan and Adis Medunjanin, detained in New York (see - Adis and Zarein) were charged in the Eastern district of New York, on Wednesday 07/07/2010, with directing and being involved in a plot to attack the New York Subway system.
The charges reveal that the plot against New York's subway system was directed by Saleh al-Somali, who was killed, on 12/09/2009, in a USA UAV missile attack in Northe-West Pakistan, FATA Region near Janikhel, and by his deputee Adnan El Shukrijumah, who probably replaced him as the head of Al Qaeda international operations (see -AQ Network System). The plot was supervised by Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, no. 3 in Al Qaeda, killed on 06/01/2010 (see -Al-Yazid Death).
The charge sheet revealed that 9 years after operation Absolute Justice in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda still has some capacity to form terror cells in the Western Democracies and to operate worldwide despite all security measures. It also emphasizes the security measures, eventually, were enough to foil the attacks.
It is also clear that Pakistan is still the epicenter of international Islamic terror and it is the second time that a Pakistani based terror international network was uncovered in 2009 after a Lashkar-e-Toiba network was uncovered following the arrest of David C. Headley (see - The-Network).
