– PAKISTANI MINISTER INJURED IN ATTACK
* Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Pakistan’s religious affairs minister, was injured when armed man opened fire on his vehicle wounding him and killing his driver, on Wednesday 09/02/2009 evening, police say.
The attack on Hamid Saeed Kazmi took place, close to his office in the Islamabad, the Pakistani capital. The gunman escaped the scene.
Muntizar Hassan, a police officer, said that Kazmi had survived the attack but that his driver had been killed. Hamid Saeed Kazmi was said to have been shot in the leg. A bodyguard was also wounded in the attack.
Hamid Saeed Kazmi, who belongs to the Barelvi sect of Sufi Islam, has been a vocal critical of the Taliban in Pakistan. He has been working recently with leading clerics to issue a fatwa, declaring suicide bombing un-Islamic (see also – Alamma Haideri ).
