AL-QAEDA NEW ONLINE ENGLISH MAGAZINE – “INSPIRE”

AL-QAEDA NEW ONLINE ENGLISH

 MAGAZINE – “INSPIRE”

Sada al-Malahim launched, on Thursday 07/01/2010, its first online propaganda magazine in English, named Inspire, a move that could help the terror group recruit inside the USA and Europe.

The magazine, called Inspire, is being run by Al Qaeda’s branch in Yemen, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula – AQAP, which means he was, most likely, edited by Anwar al-Awlaki. The launch suggests that the group hopes to broaden its reach inside the USA, where officials have seen a spate of homegrown terrorists.

Tuesday’s launch did not go smoothly. The magazine was 67 pages long and all but the first three pages were just garbled computer code, according to Site Intelligence Group.

The table of contents included articles such as make a bomb in the kitchen of your mum. The magazine’s introduction invited readers “to contribute by sending their articles, comments or suggestions to us”.

At the heart of Al Qaeda’s propaganda effort is Anwar al-Awlaki. The authorities say his online sermons, in English, have inspired several recent terrorist plots in the USA.

Meanwhile, a top US counter-terrorism official said a day earlier, on Wednesday 06/30/2010, that American intelligence estimates there are “more than 300” Al Qaeda leaders and fighters hiding in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

Taken together with the recent Central Intelligence Agency -CIA estimates that there are about 50 to 100 Al Qaeda operatives now in Afghanistan, American intelligence agencies believe that there are most likely fewer than 500 members of the group in a region where the USA has poured nearly 100,000 troops.

It is fair to assume that the new online “Inspire” magazine will be targeted by many deferent ways by all Intelligence agencies in the world and it remains to sea whether the magazine will be, indeed, useful for Al Qaeda.

A Senior law enforcement official said, on Monday 07/19/2010, he believes Samir-Khan, who reportedly moved to Yemen to study Arabic, is the editor and the writer of the new Jihadi magazine on line with the full support of Anwar al-Awlaki (see the magazine in – AL-MALAHIM -INSPIRE-MAGAZINE).

* On 09/27/2011 Inspire issued his 7th edition “celebrating” the tenth anniversary of The 9/11.

A letter from editor-in-chief Yahya Ibrahim stating that this issue is a “special supplement to the great events of the Expeditions of Washington DC and New York, as Shaykh Osama would call it, or simply 9/11. As America mourns and we celebrate this glorious event, we look into what 9/11 means ten years on.” He praises Osama bin Laden, noting that “9/11 has left a permanent scar on the American psyche and will live long after in the hearts of every American. The pain, suffering and agony that Shakyh Osama brought to America is fair payback.” He also warns that 9/11 was “merely an episode in a long, protracted war that started at the time of the Messenger of Allah” tha statement said.

An op-ed by “Abu Suhail” – which, according to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) and as noted in a previous MEMRI report on Issue 5 of Inspire,  is an alias once used by American Al Qaeda operative Adam Yahiye Gadahn– claims that Iran has promoted conspiracy theories about who is really behind 9/11 because it is envious of Al Qaeda’s prowess and accomplishments: “Iran and the Shi’a in general do not want to give Al Qaeda credit for the greatest and biggest operation ever committed against America because this would expose their lip-service jihad against the Great Satan.”

This article is the latest in a dispute between Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri and Hizbullah. In April 2008, Al-Qaeda’s media wing Al-Sahab released a two-hour audio recording by Al-Zawahiri that was a response to questions posted on Al-Qaeda forums for him to answer, earlier that year (see – Footage 04.18.08). One question concerned “the theory that has circulated in the Middle East and elsewhere that Israel was behind the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.” Al-Zawahiri accused Hizbullah’s Al-Manar television of starting the rumor, saying, “The purpose of this lie is clear – (to suggest) that there are no heroes among the Sunnis who can hurt America as no else did in history. Iranian media snapped up this lie and repeated it.”

* In a pretrial hearing for suspected Al Qaeda bomber Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri at the Guantanamo war crimes court on Tuesday 01/17/2012, ,the Guantanamo commander, Rear Admiral David Woods, testified that a copy of Inspire magazine was delivered to the Guantanamo detention camp for suspected terrorists, a military prosecutor revealed, on Wednesday 01/18/2012, during a courtroom discussion of mail security.

* On 03/01/2013, AQAP distributed through the web its 10th edition of “INSPIRE” in which they called upon Jihadi militants in the Westen Democracies to take aim on senior former politicians like Bush, Clinton, Sarkozy and Tony Blair and Explained Why It’s Easy to Assassinate them now.
