– SAUDI PRINCE WOUNDED BY MILITANT
–
A wanted militant blew himself up, on Thursday 08/27/2009 night, in the office of a Saudi prince Muhammad bin Nayef responsible for security in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, state news agency SPA has reported.
The militant claimed that had wanted to personally tell Prince Muhammad bin Nayef in his Jeddah Interior Ministry office that he would give himself up.
The prince, who was meeting well-wishers for the holy month of Ramadan, was slightly injured. The news agency did not identify the suicide bomber.
The statement suggested Abdullah al-Asiri was apparently flown to Jeddah from Najran near the Yemeni border after entering from Yemen to give himself, so to speak, up to the Interior Ministry.
* A further examination revealed that the suicide bomber had hidden the explosives inside his body packed in condoms and detonate them with a cell phone signal. It was the first ever suicide attack of its kind. There are fears that the new development could be copied by others.
Experts say it could have implications for airport security, rendering traditional metal detectors “useless”. Intelligence sources identified the Saudi Ibrahim H. al-Asiri as AQAP’s top explosives expert in Yemen and the most likely bomb maker (see – YEMEN’s Bombs Investigation ).
