– ARMY HEADQURTERS IN MOSUL ATTACKED

A suicide bomber blew up a car bomb in an Iraqi army headquarters in the northern city of Mosul, on Wednesday 01/20/2010, injuring 33 people, police conveyed, according to Reuters. Among the wounded were 18 soldiers, five police officers and 10 civilians, police said.

Meanwhile, a top Iraqi official said Tuesday some 50,000 Sunni fighters who sided with American forces against Al Qaeda in Iraq, with the Awakening Councils, are now in government jobs. Mohammed Salman al-Saadi, chairman of Iraq’s Implementation and Follow-up Committee for National Reconciliation, said Iraq hopes to put the rest of the estimated 96,000 Sons of Iraq in government jobs by summer (see – Open-Wound).

“This is a major indication of the seriousness the Iraqi government places on the Sons of Iraq,” he said, according to the AP.
