– FOUAD SABOUR
Fouhad Sabour, a French citizen was born in 1965 in Algeria. He was a member of the Algerian Islamist party – FIS. When the civil war in Algeria erupted in 01/1992 Fouhad Sabour was one of the first to join the Armed Islamic Group, known in its French acronym – GIA.
Fouhad Sabour was arrested in 1996 in France for participating in a GIA plot to carry out an attack in the French city of Lille. He was released on bail and was convicted, in absentia, in 1999 but managed to evade the French authority. Fouhad Sabour was a key member in the Frankfurt Group. Fouhad Sabour worked for an Algerian publication in France before his 04/2001 arrest in Germany.
In late 1998 and the beginning of 1999 Fouhad Sabour attended Al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan. There he met two of his codefendants – Salim Boukari and Lamine Maroni. In his trips Fouhad Sabour used, regularly, forged or stolen documents.
In late 2000 Fouhad Sabour, with Salim Boukari, rented an apartment in Baden-Baden, 60 kilometers from Strasbourg, in preparation to the planned Strasbourg plot attack. A videotape showing Christmas market in front of the Strasbourg cathedral and a busy square in the center of town was found in the police search in Baden-Baden apartment 0n 12/23/2000.
Fouhad Sabour was arrested in o4/2001, alongside three other members of the Frankfurt Group, in connection with the Strasbourg plot and was sentenced in 03/2003 for 11 years imprisonment.
