Riadh Jelassi, a Tunisian citizen and an Italian resident, was born on 12/15/1970 in Tunisia.
Riadh Jelassi lived in Milan, Italy, was a member in the Milan 01 Cell and since early 2000 shared an apartment with Essid Sami Ben Khemais, the ringleader of the cell. That apartment was bugged by the Italian security services from the beginning of 2000 as it held many meetings of the Milan 01 Cell.
Riadh Jelassi was arrested for a few days in 08/2001 for receiving a stolen car. He was arrested, again, in Milan on 10/10/2001, just after The 9/11. Riadh Jelassi was convicted in Italy on 12/11/2002, alongside Mohamed Belgacem and Lased Ben Heni and received three and a half years imprisonment for criminal association with the intent to obtain and transport arms, explosives and chemicals.
In order to avoid his deportation to Tunisia after his release from jail Riadh Jelassi accepted, in the beginning of 2004, to cooperate with the authorities in Italy. In his investigations he described plots, planed according to his words, by the Milan 01 Cell, to drive suicide truck bombs into the Milan headquarters of the Carabinieri, as well as the Milan airport and train station. That information has no collaboration from other sources.
Riadh Jelassi remained in Italy after his release from jail and in 2005 was appointed as the Imam of one of the Mosques in Milan, in Viale Jenner.
