– ALPASLAN TOPRAK
* Alpaslan Toprak was the supposed ringleader of an Ansar al-Islam cell which operated in Bursa, West Turkey.
Alpaslan Toprak was arrested on 04/29/2004 for leading the Bursa Plot to attack NATO summit in Istanbul, scheduled to 06/27/2005, in which Tony Blair and George Bush, the leaders of the invasion to Iraq, were among the leaders due to attend the summit. After the attack, according to Turkish sources, Alpaslan Toprak planned to flee to Iraq and join the war against USA there.
On 01/26/2007 Alpaslan Toprak was sentenced for 12.5 years for being an armed gang leader. Alpaslan Toprak’s alleged connection to Ansar al-Iislam in Iraq was not proven in court, which suggests that his terror group was a local initiative.
