Adnan  Rashid, born probably in 1960, was a resident of Chota Lahor area of Swabi district. is a former junior technician of Pakistan Air Force. He is fluent in English, Pashto and Urdu. He had joined PAF in 1997.

Adnan  Rashid was arrested by the Pakistani authorities in early 2004, suspected to be a member of Farooqi’s Cell, a terror outfit that attempted twice, in 12/2003, to kill General Pervez Musharraf, the ruler of Pakistan at the time (see -Rawalpindi attempt) .

Adnan  Rashid was found guilty and sentenced to deatn but the execution was suspended. Although sentenced to death and considered a dangerous terrorists Adnan  Rashid was in contact with the world outside the different jails where he was lodged after being sentenced to death through his cellular phone, according to sources. He was also in touch with several journalists and used to send them messages through short message service (SMS).

Adnan  Rashid was the most prominent prisoner released by the local Pakistani Tehrik-e-Taleban in their raid on Bannu jail on 04/15/2012 (see -Bannu 04.15.12).

Few days later, on Thursday 04/19/2012, the Tehrik-e-Taleban telecast an exclusive footage of Adnan  Rashid shown as being welcomed by the Taliban in an area which appears to be somewhere in Pakistan’s North-West FATA tribal belt.

 


* On 07/17/2013 Adnan  Rashid published in British Channel 4 an open four-page letter, addressing the 16-year-old education advocate Malala Yousafzai (pic) and blamed her for provoking the attack by “smearing” the Islamists.



Malala Yousafzai was shot in her head on her way home from school in Mingora (see – Mingora Schools), the region’s main city in Swat District on  10/09/2012, because she was  an outspoken advocate of education for girls, according to Ehsanullah Ehsan, a spokesman for Tehrik-e-Taleban in Swat Valley (see – Swat School Girls). Malala Yousafzai was flown to UK for extensive treatment and her life were’ eventually, saved.  



At the start of the letter  Adnan  Rashid wrote  “when you were attacked it was shocking for me, I wished it would never happened,” but quickly shifted the blame for the shooting to the shoulders of the victim.
