– EGYPT’S STATE PROSECUTOR, HISHAM BARAKAT, KILLED
A bomb, on Monday 06/29/2015, targeted the convoy of the Egyptian state prosecutor Hisham Barakat, in the capital Cairo, security officials said.
A senior police officer told Agence France-Presse that top prosecutor Hisham Barakat and his bodyguards had been taken to hospital. Barakat was said to be “in good condition,” the officer added.
It is not known whether there were any other casualties in the attack, which was reported to have taken place in the Heliopolis district of the capital. Local newspaper Al Ahram reported that the attack took place outside Cairo’s military college and that Hisham Barakat was taken to Al-Nozha hospital, also in Heliopolis.
“He has passed away,” Justice Minister Ahmed al-Zind told AFP news agency, few hours later, at the hospital where Hisham Barakat had been taken following the bombing on Monday.
