In an internet 20-minute audio message distributed on the web, on 12/14/2007 night Gulf time, dedicated to the 11/27/2007 Annapolis conference, the acting leader of Al Qaeda Ayman Al Zawahiri claimed that Arab leaders have betrayed the Palestinians. He argued that “The Annapolis meeting was held to turn Palestine into a Jewish state” and labeled the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas “the traitor”.
Ayman al Zawahiri urged Muslims to resist the Zionist enemy and called on Egyptian soldiers and also Bedouin tribes in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula to rise against the rule of President Hosni Mubarak. “God wants you to get ready, for the sake of God,” Ayman al Zawahiri said.
Just two days later, on 12/16/2007, Ayman Al Zawahiri broadcasted, on the web, a 90 minutes videotape. Interviewed by Al Qaeda’s head of the media branch – As-Sahab, Ayman Al Zawahiri denounced as “traitors” Sunni Arab tribes, who have been fighting alongside USA and Iraqi forces against al-Qaeda-linked militants in Iraq. He referred to the British withdrawal from Basra and the handover of security to the Iraqi Authorities, two days earlier, as a defeat which forced the British to flee the town.

The audio massage is consistent with Ayman al Zawahiri’s habit to refer to actual events, to lash out on moderate Arab leaders, to urge the Muslims to additional attacks and to promise the support of his Mujahidin (Holy Warriors). Ayman Al Zawahiri’s massages became a routine with little impact on the Arab Society.
