– PETKATA BABAR ALI
An alleged top terror in Chittagong – Babar Ali alias Petkata Babar – was killed reportedly, on 01/12/2005 dawn, in an encounter between the Bangladeshi Rapid Action Battalion – RAB men and Babar followers at village Chowdhury Nagar, near Chittagong, hours before dawn.
Babar Ali alias Petkata Babar is the son of Shafikur Rahman, a resident of Chandranagar area under Bayazid Bostami police station.
RAB men picked Babar Ali alias Petkata Babar up from Laldhighipar, on Tuesday 01/11/2005 evening, after he was just released on bail, for further questioning. Following the interrogation the RAB personnel recovered three country-made guns, a light-gun (LG), 12 rounds of live ammunition of AK 47 rifle and country-made gun from the possession of his followers.
Petkata Babar confessed to the RAB that his accomplices had owned huge quantities of arms and ammunition that were stored at the Chowdhurynagar Banobilash residential project hills.
According to his confessional statement, a 17-member special squad of the RAB-7 along with Petkata Babar went to the spot for searching arms and ammunition. The squad also attempted arresting two of his accomplices.
As soon as the RAB personnel reached the spot the accomplices of Babar ambushed on the RAB men. The RAB men resorted to strong encounter triggering a gun battle that lasted for about an hour. More than 40 rounds of gunshots were traded during the gunfight. Petkata Babar Ali received bullet injurious when he tried to flee away from the RAB custody during the gunfight and died on the spot.
Petkata Babar Ali was a Chittagong gang leader who dealt with violent crime as well as a Muslim terrorist too.
