Former USA president Jimmy Carter entered the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, on Tuesday 06/13/2009 morning, after urging Israel to lift a blockade on the Palestinian enclave and stop treating its residents like “savages.”
Jimmy Carter was due to tour areas damaged by Israel’s 22-day war against the Hamas rulers of the impoverished territory earlier this year, which killed more than 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis during OPERATION CAST LEAD. He was also due to speak at the headquarters of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA.
Palestinian Hamas security sources has revealed, amide Carter’s visit in Gaza, that Palestinian Hamas security forces defused two road side bombs ready to use. The bombs were hidden on the road from Gaza town to the Erez border crossing with Israel into Gaza Strip, shortly after Jimmy Carter entered Gaza Strip, and were meant to be used against Carter’s convoy on his way out from Gaza Strip back to Israel.
The sources claimed the attempt on Jimmy Carter’s life is attributed to one of the new Al Qaeda affiliated organization in Gaza Strip, known in their general name “Jaljalat” (Windy Storm). One of those organizations – the Jund Ansar-Allah (Soldiers of the Victorious God) – committed the Nahal-Oz raid, on 06/08/2009 (see – Nahal-Oz 06.08.09).
