Fritz-Joly Joachim, born in 1985, is a French citizen of Haitian origin. According to Fritz-Joly Joachim’s wife, he converted to Islam 15 years ago, in 2000, and turned radical two years ago. She said he planned to take their child to Syria to educate him in a jihadist community (see also -SYRIAN DILEMA ) .
On 01/01/2015 Fritz-Joly Joachim was arrested in Bulgaria on trying to cross into Turkey. He was initially detained on a European arrest warrant issued by France following allegations by his wife that he had kidnapped their three-year-old son. .But on Monday 01/12/2015, as French police delved into the contacts of the Kouachi brothers, who committed the Charlie hebdo attack, on 01/07/2015. in Paris. Bulgarian prosecutors received a second European arrest warrant issued by a court in Paris (see also – Western-Jihadists ).
Public prosecutor Darina Slavova told AFP new agency Fritz-Joly Joachim “was in contact several times” with Chérif Kouachi,.these contacts took place before he left France on 12/30/2014, a week before the Charlie Hebdo attack.
Fritz-Joly Joachim told prosecutors however that he was travelling with his son and girlfriend just for a holiday in Istanbul, and Bulgarian media quoted him as denying being an extremist. He had said he would not contest his extradition back to France.
