– 24 KILLED IN GAZA CLASHES
According to Reuters, it all started when Jund Ansar-Allah (“Victorious Warriors of God”) rallied a few hundred men for an event at a Rafah mosque. Jund Ansar-Allah was led, militarily, by Abu Abdullah Assury (from Syria), known also as Abu Abdullah al-Muhajir (from Syria), and wanted by the Egyptian authorities too (see also – Nahal-Oz 06.08.09).
Abu Abdullah al-Muhajir was born in Syria in 1967. He worked in Hamas’s headquarter in Damascus in 2007. In 2008 Abu Abdullah al-Muhajir was picked by the head of Hamas Khaled Mashaal to be send to Iran for military training and afterward to be positioned in Gaza as a military expert. He arrived to Gaza in mid 2008 and immediately joined Mufti Abdel-Latif Moussa in forming the Jund Ansar-Allah with a Jihadi ideology. His case aroused concern that from the very beginning Abu Abdullah Assury was a sort of a sleeping agent in the ranks of Hamas. Abu Abdullah al-Muhajir was killed also during the fighting.
Hamas said its armed police force known as “Tanphizya” stormed the movement’s stronghold, including the Mosque where Abdel-Latif Moussa – known to supporters of al Qaeda in Gaza Strip as Abu al-Nour al-Maqdessi – had declared before weekly prayers the start of theocratic rule in the Gaza Strip, starting at Rafah. “We declare the birth of the Islamic Emirate,” stated Maqdessi and after the group killed a Hamas mediator.
Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the PM of the Gaza Strip, denied in his sermon on Friday that any non-Palestinian gunmen were in the territory, as alleged by Israel. “Such groups do not exist on the soil of the Gaza Strip … there are no fighters in Gaza except Gazan fighters,” he said. Such “Zionist propaganda” from Israel was designed to turn the world against Hamas, he conveyed.
Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri called Abdel-Latif Moussa’s speech “wrong thinking” and the Interior Ministry said he was “mad”.
Since Hamas took over Gaza strip in 08/2007, they managed, successfully, to eradicate the common phenomena of armed gangs from all kinds caring weapons and terrorizing the population or challenging its authority over Gaza, what ever the reason was.
