The second in command in MAGHREB al-Qaeda Harek Zoheir, also known as Sofiane Abu Fasila, was killed by the Algerian army on 10/07/2007 in the district of Tzizi Ouzou 100 km East to Algiers the Capital. Sofiane Abu Fasila is suspected of being behind planning most of the suicide bombings in Algeria in the recent months. He was killed with two of his companions, in an Army checkpoint. The killing of Sofiane Abu Fasila suggests that the Algerian Authority has good intelligence about MAGHREB al-Qaeda and the army is closing on its leadership.
In many small terror attacks, carried by Islamic militants, during the month of Ramadan all over Algeria, more than 80 people were killed.
