In the fall of 1999 James Ujaama, a Seattle resident and a supporter of the Taliban in Afghanistan contacted through fax the radical cleric in UK, Abu Hamza al-Masri, and suggested to buy a piece of land in Bly County, Oregon, USA near Klamath water fall. The idea was to establish there a military training camp for Islamic militants to support the Global Jihad.
In 11/1999 Abu Hamza al-Masri sent to Oregon USA one of his followers, Haroon Rashid Aswat, with another follower, Ossama Kassir, and in order to handle the deal they lived in would-be training camp for a month. (Some reports suggested that at that time, in 1999, Haroon Rashid Aswat was an MI6 – British Intelligence Service informant and due to them the Oregon deal was foiled.)
During the month in the camp Haroon Rashid Aswat and Ossama Abdullah Kassir made the place a kind of retreat for a small group of Muslims. They met potential candidates for Jihad training, established security passwords and participated in firearms training. Soon the ranch drew scrutiny from Southern Oregon law-enforcement officials.
Haroon Rashid Aswat was disillusioned with what he found at the ranch and all the project was abandoned by the end of 1999.
Epilogue –
* James Ujaama was arrested on 07/22/2002. He was sentenced for two year in jail and rearrested in Belize with a Mexican passport in 12/2006.
* Haroon Rashid Aswat was arrested in Zambia on 07/20/2005, his location is unknown to the public.
* Ossama Abdullah Kassir was arrested in Prague, Czech on 12/14/2005 and is fighting in court his extradition to USA.
