– IRAN’S LAST PRANK

*An Iranian exile group, Mujahideen Khalq, said on Thursday 09/24/2009, that it has identified two previously unknown sites in and near Tehran where they say Iranian scientists are researching and trying to manufacture detonators for nuclear weapons.

The announcement was timed to coincide with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s appearance at the United Nations General Assembly and with intensified pressure from the United States and other major powers to force Iran to allow full inspection of its nuclear-related facilities by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Mujahideen Khalq proved itself in the past as a reliable source of information.

 

The next day, Friday 09/25/2009, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad confirmed foreign Intelligence reports that a new site planned to operate 3,000 Pakistani designed centrifuges in order to enrich uranium is under construction, underground, near the holy city of Qom and was being built in line with UN regulations.

 

In order to calm the Western Democracies, China and Russia and to prevent possible new and harsh sanctions, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad added that “We don’t have any problems with inspections of the facility. We have no fears,” hinting that Iran will allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit the site.    

 

In 2003, Iran already agreed on what is called a Subsidiary Arrangement, under which it is required to tell the IAEA at the preliminary design stage. Iran later announced that they had repudiated this agreement, but the IAEA says that no such unilateral repudiation is acceptable.

 

Mr Ahmadinejad spoke out hours after President Obama, President Sarkozy and PM Brown took to the stage in Pittsburgh – site of a G20 summit – to condemn the building of the new plant. Obama said the size of the new facility, combined with capacities Iran already obtains are “inconsistent” with the nuclear requirements for peaceful purposes.

 

Reacting to comments from Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran’s atomic energy chief, who said on Iranian state television, on Saturday 09/26/2009: “we have no problem for inspection within the framework of the agency regulations.” Hillary Clinton, the USA Secretary of State, has welcomed Iran’s decision to allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into a newly disclosed uranium enrichment plant.
