– SWAT REFUGEES ALLOWED HOME

According to Pakistani PM Yusuf Reza Gilani, on Friday 07/10/2009, the 2.5 millions refugees from Swat District and nearby Buner Province are allowed home from Monday 07/13/2009. The enouncement comes amide persisting information that the Tehrik-e-Taleban leader in Swat valley. Maulana Fazlullah is near death.

“The electricity has been restored, the gas has been restored, the gas stations have been restored and even the banks have been restored,” PM Yusuf Reza Gilani said in a televised news conference.

The real situation on the ground is still very evasive. The Pakistani Army 10 weeks campaign left behind a lot of damage. The Local militants assimilated in the ordinary population and might regroup later on and other strongholds of the Taliban along the Afghan border are still operational.

The UN humanitarian affairs chief has warned there is no guarantee of safety for an estimated two million people who Pakistan plans to return to their homes following its military offensive in the northwest.

“The security situation is not going to be 100 percent calm in these areas overnight and we must recognise that,” John Holmes said on Friday 07/10/2009 at the end of a visit to Pakistan. But the situation in Pakistan was never 100 percent calm since the formation of Pakistan in 1947.

Despite initial concern about the stability of the Pakistani fragile political system amide the internal Swat-Crisis the main outcome of the conflict with its militants in Pakistan is the surprising endurance, durability and unity of its politicians which is a very good sign for the future.
