– MOHAMMED SADDIQ ODEH

 

* Mohammed Saddiq Odeh Howeida was born on 03/01/1965 in Tabuk, Northern Saudi Arabia, to a family from Palestinian descent and is a Jordanian citizen.  He was an architecture Student in a college in the Philippines in the late 1980’s.

After his studies Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh went to Afghanistan in the post war with Russians and joined a training camp of one of the Islamic groups. He became an explosives expert. Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh was one of the first devoted followers of Osama Bin Laden since he left for Sudan in late 1991.

In 1993 Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh trained Somali militants to oppose U.S. and U.N. forces in the country in the time of USA led operation “Restore Hope” (12/1992-05/1993) where he got associated to Abu Ubaidah al-Banshiri and Mohammed Atef , both future senior Al Qaeda leaders.

In late 1993 Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh moved to join the Abu Sayyaf group in South Philippines.  Philippines intelligence managed to photograph him, at some point, in front of his house in the southern city of Davao in 1993. He was suspected of having a role in a 1993 bombing of a cathedral in Davao that killed 7 and was carried out by Abu Sayyaf.  In 1995, Philippine authorities arrested him for possession of explosive devices and then let him go. He left the Philippines to Pakistan (and probably to Afghanistan too), after that arrest, in late 1995.

Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh arrived to East Afirca in 1996, with a forge passport provided by Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, probably in a recruiting mission, and managed to recruit to Al Qaeda Fahid Ally Msalam from Mombasa.

Mohammed Saddiq Odeh was in Al Qaeda’s team that assembled in Runda Estate, a quiet farm near Nairobi, the car bomb designated for the USA embassy in Kenya on the 08/07/1998 attack. Shortly before the 08/07/1998 attack Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh flew to Karachi, Pakistan, where he was arrested by the local immigration authorities and deported to Kenya a week later.  In Kenya Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh was handed over to USA authorities.     

Mohammed Saddiq Odeh was indicted in New York, US on 11/04/1998 and put on trial in New York, in 01/2001, alongside Wadih el Hage, Khalfan Khamis Mohamed and Mohamed al-Owhali.

Mohammed Saddiq  Odeh was sentenced 0n 05/29/2001 to life in prison without parole and is today (02/2007) in Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado.
