– MAURITANIAN MILITANT ESCAPED AGAIN !

On Monday 04/07/2008 morning the Mauritanian police and soldiers closed on a building in construction in the outskirts of Nouakchott, Mauritania’s capital. The police suspected that Islamic Militants, including Sidi Ould Sidna, 20, the prime suspect of the French Tourists murder from 12/24/2007 (See – Aleg Attack ) were hiding in the building.

After a shootout in which a police officer and an Islamic militant were killed and 8 more wounded militant was captured but he was not the fugitive they were looking for – Sidi  Ould Sidna who remains at large.

Sidi  Ould Sidna is suspected of operating with MAGHREB al-Qaeda. He is one of three suspects in committing the French Tourists murder from 12/24/2007. According to the indictment he a co-defendant, Mohamed Ould Chabarnou, are suspected of killing the French tourists on behalf of Al Qaeda near the southern town of Aleg while the third is accused of providing support .

Sidi  Ould Sidna escaped from a court building toilet last week, on 04/02/2008, and then evaded security forces in another shoot-out. He was captured after few days.

A court in Mauritania has sentenced, on Wednesday 10/20/2010, Khadim Ould Semane, Sidi  Ould Sidna and Marouf Ould Haiba to death (see – Nouakchott 10.20.10). While capital punishment is legal in Mauritania, the last time the country executed a convict was in 1984.
