– MOAMMAR AL-AWAMI
* Moammar Al-Awami, also known as Ibn al-Shahid (the son of the martyr) was born in Yemen in 1974. He was captured by Fatah Activits in Ain al-Hilweh, on 10/18/2003, and handed over to the Lebanese authorities who were looking after him as a suspect in the Pizza-Hut Network.
Moammar Al-Awami arrived to the Palestinian refugee camp Ain al-Hilweh near Sidon, South Lebanon, in late 2001 after he fled Afghanistan during operation Absolute Justice. In Ain al-Hiweh he joined “Usbat al-Ansar”, a group affiliated to Al Qaeda ideas (see – Jund al-Sham ).
A Lebanese military court has sentenced, on 03/09/2004, Moammar Al-Awami to 20 years in jail for bomb attacks on USA targets. The court found Moammar Al-Awami guilty of carrying out “terrorist acts”, forgery and attempted murder.
Moammar Al-Awami was convicted of masterminding attacks on three US fast food outlets in Lebanon and plotting to attack the US embassy and kill the ambassador.
On 12/20/2003, 27 men were sentenced to jail for their parts in the attacks in Beirut and the city of Tripoli.
Moammar Al-Awami was also implicated in a plot to blow up the US embassy, after a man carrying explosives was arrested outside the building last December.
