Two missiles suspected to have been fired by a USA drone have killed the youngest and second wife of the leading Pakistani militant Baitullah Mehsud, on Wednesday 08/05/2009 morning. Four children were also injured in the attack.

The next day, Thursday 08/06/2007, USA and Pakistani officials have said they are checking reports that the leader Baitullah Mehsud, has been, indeed, killed in the strike. One if his lieutenants, commander Kafayat Ullah, confirmed by phone to the Associated Press, on Friday 08/07/2009 noon, the death of Baitullah Mehsud. His death is a major blow to Tehrik-e-Taleban and alike in Pakistan with an impact on the Taliban in Afghanistan too.
The house, owned by Malik Ikramuddin, father-in-law of Baitullah Mehsud, is located in the Zangarha area, 15km (9.3 miles) North-East of Ladha town, in South Waziristan FATA region.

Most of the strikes in recent weeks have taken place in the tribal regions of North and South Waziristan. The region is the stronghold of Baitullah Mehsud, who is nowadays the most active and dangerous Islamic militant commander in Pakistan.

Suspected US UAV drones have carried out several attacks in areas controlled by Baitullah Mehsud in recent weeks, but this was the first strike in which he Baitullah Mehsud himself hase been targeted.

Maulvi Omar, who was arrested in Bajaur province, on Tuesday 08/18/2009, confirmed in his investigation that Baitullah Mehsude was, indeed, killed by the missile attack.
