The FBI arrested, on Thursday 09/24/2009, Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, 19, a Jordanian citizen who was plotting to bomb downtown Dallas. Hosam Maher Smadi was exposed when he participated in an online group of Islamic extremists on the web, who were monitored by the FBI. He, apparently, has a history of supporting Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden, According to authorities, and committed himself to “violent Jihad”.
Hosam Maher Smadi, who stayed in USA Ilegaly, after he overstayed his tourist visa, and lived in the small north Texas town of ItalY. A former employee where Hosam Maher Smadi worked said Smadi got the job at the gas station with a California driver’s license. Hosam Maher Smadi claimed he needed the job because he lost everything in a fire.
Hosam Maher Smadi was arrested as he tried to place an inactive car bomb under the 60 story Fountain Place building in downtown Dallas. He has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
The FBI said Hosam Maher Smadi had been under constant surveillance and – in relation to an on-going sting operation – a decoy device had been supplied to the suspect by an undercover agent. Federal officials say the case has no connection with Zazi’s Indictment. He, probably, acted on his own.

A day earlier, on Wednesday 09/23/2009, in another case, police arrested 29-year-old Michael Finton after attempting to blow up a car bomb outside a courthouse in Springfield, Illinois.

* Husein Smadi, 18, the younger brother of Hosam Maher Smadi, was arrested too and transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the San Francisco area, ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said, on Tuesday 10/13/2009, under a court order. Husein Smadi will remain in federal custody until 10/27/2009 so he can be questioned under oath by attorneys for his older brother.

* Hosam Maher Husein Smadi pleaded guilty in May 2010 in US District Court in Dallas and was sentenced, on Tuesday 10/19/2010, to 24 years in jail.
