Martin Couture-Rouleau, 25, a citizen of Canada, a Muslim convert and one of 90 Islamic militants being tracked by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) smashed his car into two soldiers in Quebec on Monday 10/20/2014 around 11:30 A.M. After he ran down the two men, Couture-Rouleau called 911 and boasted to operators that he had attacked in the name of Allah, the Toronto Sun reported.
Police say that Martin Rouleau (Ahmad) waited in the carpark for the soldiers for at least two hours before mowing them down and taking off, leading police on a high-speed chase. Martin Rouleau was killed by officers at St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, about 40 kilometres southeast of Montreal, after he came at police with a knife. The dead soldier was identified, on Tuesday 10/21/2014, as Warrant Ofc Patrice Vincent, 53, a 28-year veteran of the Canadian armed services. The other soldier suffered minor injuries, police said.
Martin Couture-Rouleau had a pressure-washing business registered in Quebec. 2013, according to one of his neighbors, Martin Couture-Rouleau had fallen in with extremist Muslims aroundSince his conversion to Islam, in mid 2013. On social media websites, Couture-Rouleau posted polemics attacking Christianity, Western leaders and Israel. According to one friend he dreamed of dying as a martyr.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Bob Paulson said authorities had been tracking a group of Islamic radicals – including Couture-Rouleau – because they may have intended to go abroad to join militant groups.
The Canadian authorities seized Couture-Rouleau’s passport in 07/2014 when he tried to travel to Turkey. He was arrested but police lacked evidence to charge him with a crime.
Authorities had met him several times, most recently on 10/09/2014, and had met his parents and the imam at his Mosque in an effort to get him to change his views.
It is the second terror attack in the Western Democracies related to the civil war in Syria and to the rise of I.S.I.S in the Middle East.
