* Omar Said Omar was born in Kenya in 1973. He was educated as a computer expert. In 1998 Omar Said Omar moved to neighbor Somalia where he opened in Kismoayo, on the Indian Ocean in South Somalia, a lobsters fishing business with a partner Issa Osman Issa. Slowly and gradually Issa Osman Issa recruited Omar Said Omar to the cause of Global Jihad and to the affiliated group to Al Qaeda in Somalia – the “Itihad al-Islamiya” (Islamic Union) led by Sheikh Dahir Aweys.
In early 2002 Omar Said Omar went for few months to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, for military training, where he got acquainted with Al Qaeda operatives: Abdul Malik and Salim Hemed alias Issa Tanzania. In 04/2002 Omar Said Omar returned to his fishing business in Kismoayo, probably already committed to the Mombasa Paradise attack.
In 08/2002 Omar Said Omar arrived to Mombasa in preparation for the attack and met there with Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, whom he already knew from Mogadishu as Abdul Karim. Fazul Abdullah Mohammed asked Omar Said Omar to rent an apartment for the perpetrators of the future Mombasa Paradise attack and to by a small boat for their escape after the attack. After he fulfilled his missions, using the name Issa Kombo Issa, Omar Said Omar returned to Kismoayo on 11/20/2002, where he was at the time of the Mombasa Paradise attack on 11/28/2002. Omar Said Omar was in constant cell phone connection with the attackers prior to the attack.
Omar Said Omar returned to Kenya on 05/2003 and was arrested on 08/01/2003 on charges of participating in the organization of the Mombasa Paradise attack. He was put on trial, alongside other defendants of Mombasa Trial. Omar Said Omar cooperated with his interrogators and revealed, in details, all the procedures, organization, identified all the participants in the attack and proved having a detailed prior knowledge about the attack. Omar Said Omar, as all the other defendants of the Mombasa Trial, was acquitted from all charges related to the Mombasa Paradise attack in a disputed decision of the KENYAN court on 08/09/2005.
Immediately after the acquittal Omar Said Omar was rearrested for charges of illegal arm smuggling referring to the two SAM-7 “Sterla” missiles he helped, according to his own testimony, to smuggle from Somalia to Kenya. Omar Said Omar was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment and is today (10/2007) in jail.
