– ANSAR BAIT AL-MAQDIS
Al-Maqdis (the Temple) is one of the alias of the ‘Dome of the Rock ‘ Mosque in Jerusalem, The name of the group can be translated as the ‘ Soldiers of the Temple (in Jerusalem)” also known as ‘Ansar Jerusalem’.
Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis is one of several groups that emerged in Sinai Peninsula especially after EGYPT’S REVOLUTION in early 2011 tacking advantage on the general chaos in Egypt and the sympathy of the Muslims Brotherhood in Egypt, Like other similar groups Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis is a co-production of pro Al Qaeda groups in Gaza Strip, known by their general name as Jaljalat, and Salafist groups among the Bedouin tribes in Sinai Peninsula. The cooperation and relations between Gaza Strip and the Bedouin tribes go back to the Hilton Taba Attack, on 10/07/2004.
Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis is probably the same group known as the Mujahideen Shura Council of Jerusalem Region ( Magles Shourat al-Mujahddin fi Aknaf al-Quds), formed by Hisham al-Saidni in Gaza Strip in late 2010, was implicated with the case of Vitorio Arrigoni in Gaza Strip in 04/2011 and took responsibility on attacks against Israel and Egyptian security forces since 2010, Vitorio Arrigoni’s assassination revealed that the group behind the attack was comprised not only of Palestinians but also Jordanians.
Jihadists from Libya, Saudi Arbia and Egypt, were killed in clashes with Israeli forces on the Sinai border with Israel, although most of the attacks were and are carried out against Egyptian security forces (see – Face of Jihadists ).
* The Egyptian army, on Monday 12/09/2013, claimed they killed a senior leader of Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis group in North Sinai.
* Ibrahim Mohamed Freg, aka Abu Suhaib, was killed in an ambush in Sheikh Zuweid city, army spokesman Ahmed Mohamed said in a Facebook statement.
* Egyptian security officials said, on 05/23/2014, a key leader of a militant group, Shadi el-Menei (pic), has been shot dead in the Sinai peninsula. It is not known who shot Shadi el-Menei but it is assumed he was ambushed by local tribesmen.
On 11/03/2013 Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis sworn allegiance to Islamic State – I.S.I.S , “After entrusting God we decided to swear allegiance to the emir of the faithful Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, caliph of the Muslims in Syria and Iraq and in other countries,” the statement said. It addopted a new name – Islamic State in Sinai Province (Wilayat Sinai) -.
