* Sajid Mansuri, an Indian Muslim, was born in 1973 in the Indian state of Gujarat. He became an important SIMI leader and the secretary of SIMI in Gujarat. Sajid Mansuri had been active in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, holding secret meetings to indoctrinate young Muslims into ‘jihad’.
Sajid Mansuri is hunted since 2001 after fleeing from a meeting in Surat in 2001, just before a police crackdown in which 123 SIMI members were caught. According to police sources Sajid Mansuri fled to Jaipur where he worked as a Madrassa teacher.
Sajid Mansuri was finally arrested in Bharuch, Gujarat, on 08/11/2008, as a prime suspect in the Ahmedabad Bombings. Indeed, after an intensive interrogation, Sajid Mansuri led the investigators to the house of his relative Yunus Mansuri, who was arrested too, in Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad where some of the Bangalore Bombs and the bombs used in Ahmedabad and the Surat failure were assembled. His investigation led also to the arrest, on 08/16/2008, of Mufti Abdul Bashar Kasmi, simultaneously with other 8 suspects, in Lucknow, Uttar-Pradesh’s capital as a prime suspect of masterminding and financing the Ahmedabad Bombings.
Sajid Mansuri told his investigators about two meetings he participated: the first, in 04/2008, in Bhopal with Shahbaz Hussain and Taukeer in order to plan the Jaipur Bombings and the second in Ahmedabad, on 07/19/2008, with Islamic radical elements, to prepare the Ahmedabad Bombings.
Police believes that Sajid Mansuri, Mufti Abdul Bashar Kasmi and a third suspect arrested too – Shahbaz Hussain, are linked to the Jaipur Bombings from Saturday 05/13/2008 evening.
