* Mustafa al-‘Uzayti – Abu Faraj al-Libi, also known as Abu Faraj Faraj or Dr. Taufeek, was born in 1965 in Libya. He is married to Asia Tabarak, daughter of Abdallah Tabarak, a Moroccan and former bodyguard for Osama Bin Laden. Through his family relations Abu Faraj al-Libi got acquainted with Osama Bin laden already in the early 90s’ in Sudan and helped administer some of al-Qaeda’s activities in East Africa and Sudan. Later, from 1996 in Afghanistan, Abu Faraj Faraj became one of the key organizers of Al Qaeda’s training camps and a top adviser to Al Qaeda’s leader.
Since the 08/07/1998 attacks on USA embassies in Kenya and Tanzania Abu Faraj al-Libi was put on the list of wanted terrorists for questioning although there was no hard evidence to his direct involvement in the attacks.
In mid 2002 Abu Faraj al-Libi met in Pakistan with Mohammed al-Ghabra, probably in order to expend Al Qaeda operations in UK.
Abu Faraj al-Libi operated in Pakistan with two senior lieutenants: Abu Hamza Rabia who was his liaison officer to Waziristan tribes in North West Pakistan and Amjad Farooqi who coordinated with other radical and militant Islamic groups in Pakistan.
Abu Faraj al-Libi was the mastermind of the double Rawalpindi attempt on Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf’s life in Rawalpindi in 12/2003.
On 08/18/2004 the Pakistani authority put Abu Faraj al-Libi in the list of the six most wanted Islamic terrorists in Pakistan and offered a reward of $340,000 (20millions rupees) for information that would lead to his capture.
Following the arrest of Naeem Noor Khan, on 07/13/2004, and the cracking of Al Qaeda communication system, Abu Faraj al-Libi was arrested on 05/03/2005 in a special “sting” operation of the Pakistani Intelligence ISI.
After his interrogation in Pakistan, Abu Faraj al-Libi was handed over to USA on 06/2005. Today (03/2008) Abu Faraj al-Libi is detained with other senior Al Qaeda leaders in Guantanamo.
According to Jean-Charles Brisard, a French intelligence investigator and leading expert on terrorism, Pakistan and US authorities have completely overestimated his role and importance. Abu Faraj al-Libi was never more than a regional facilitator between Al Qaeda and local Pakistani Islamic groups.
