BRUSSELS’ BOMBINGS – THE EUROPEAN AFTERMATH

** On Wednesday 03/23/2016, German federal police also reportedly arrested a 28-year-old Moroccan in the town of Giessen, north of Frankfurt. They found two suspicious text messages on his mobile phone from the day of the Brussels attacks. Officers from a special German police task force detained Samir E., a known member of the local Salafist scene, during a raid in Düsseldorf, news magazine “Der Spiegel” reported on Friday 03/25/2016 . Investigators were looking into whether he is connected to Ibrahim and Khalid El-Bakraoui, the Brussels Bombers. According to the report, Samir E. had been arrested by Turkish authorities near the border with Syria in mid-2015, as had Ibrahim El-Bakraoui.

** French police, on Thursday 03/24/2016 evening,  launched an anti-terrorism operation in Argenteuil, north-west of Paris, following the arrest hours earlier of Reda Kriket, 34, a man suspected of planning an attack. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the Reda Kriket, a French national born in Paris, was in an “advanced stage” of a plot.  Three other men were also detained in the police operations, including two suspects of Algerian background aged 43 and 47. No immediate details were available about the third man, the statement said.

** Police in Italy, on Saturday 03/26/2016,, have arrested an Algerian national over a probe into fake ID documents used by both the Paris and Brussels attackers, allegedly including those of Najim Laachraoui. The man was later identified as Djamal Eddine Ouali, 40 (pic-l). Djamal Ouali was arrested t in the small town of Bellizzi in southern Italy. Ouali is suspected of being a part of a criminal network that produces false documents used in illegal immigration, according to Italian AGI news agency. Djamal Eddine Ouali is about to be extradited to Brussels as a suspected accomplice of the Brussels attacks .

** Dutch police have arrested, on Sunday 03/27/2016,  a French national, 32, suspected of “involvement in planning a terror attack” in France in the port city of Rotterdam. at the request of French authorities,

** European security expert Claude Moniquet said, on Sunday 03/27/2016,  the Brussels bombers had originally planned Easter outrages but brought forward their attacks following the arrest of failed Paris suicide bomber Salah Abdesalam.

Mr Moniquet said: “Intelligence agencies are increasingly confident that Tuesday’s attackers were supposed to be part of a synchronised strike and originally planned to hit their targets on Easter Monday.
